The United Kingdom Computer Misuse Act 1990
The United Kingdom Computer Misuse Act 1990 was another Act established to protect children as well as every computer user online.
This very Act makes some activities illegal online. If you commit any of this act online, you are liable to be punished. You should know that this does not have to do with your nationality. They have the power to repatriate you to face the consequence of your action.
Under this Act, you are not permitted to hack into other people’s computer.
Also, under this very Act, one can be punished for the misuse of software. If you are using any software for any purpose that is not meant for, you can be punished. That means under this rule, if you are in custody of peoples data and you decide to use the software for the purpose that it is not meant for, you can be penalised for doing such.
under the Computer Misuse Act, you can be punished if you help a hacker or others to gain access to secured files. That simply means you are aiding and abetting a crime.
This Act also defines computer misuse as:
- unauthorised access to others computer resources. This happens when you decide to hack into others devices and gain access to their information.
- Unauthorised access with the intent to commit or facilitate commision of further offences.
- Unauthorised modification of computer material.
