8 Tailoring Considerations for Project Integration Management

In this article, I want to talk about tailoring considerations for project integration management. Because each project is unique, the Project Manager may need to tailor the way the Project Integration Management processes are applied. Here are some of the tailoring considerations for Project Integration Management.

8 Tailoring Considerations for Project Integration Management

#1 PROJECT LIFECYCLE

The Project Manager needs to ask team members and stakeholders what is the appropriate project lifecycle for the project? What phase should comprise the project? This will allow the Project manager to come up with appropriate lifecycle model for the project.

#2 DEVELOPMENT LIFECYCLE

The Project manager as part of the tailoring considerations for projects need to ask what development lifecycle and approaches are appropriate for the product, service, or result? Is a predictive or adaptive approach appropriate? If adaptive, should the product be developed incrementally or iteratively? Is a hybrid approach the best?

#3 MANAGEMENT APPROACHES

The Project Manager needs to know what management processes are the most effective based on the organisational culture and complexity of the project.

#4 CHANGE

How will the change be managed in the project?

#5 KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

How will knowledge be managed in the project to foster a collaborative working environment?

#6 GOVERNANCE

As part of tailoring considerations for projects, you need to decide what control boards, committees and other stakeholders are part of the project? What are the project status reporting requirements for the project?

#7 LESSON LEARNED

What information should be collected throughout and at the end of the project? How will historical information and lessons learn to be made available to future projects?

#8 BENEFITS

When and how should benefits be reported at the end of the project or at the end of each iteration or process? Asking and finding an answer to these questions will allow the project manager to tailor project integration based on project requirements.
