Are you ready to set up a secure network ?

Network can be seen a group of two or more computers that are connected together in order for them to share resources together. As you are reading through this blog, you are connected to a network. We all make use of Google to search for information, we are also connected to a network. This at times allow others to have access to your information if you fail to secure them. In this article, I want to tell you how to secure network preferences for your device. Follow me as we look at that together in this article.

Disable unused hardware when you want a secure network

One of the very first step you need to take as part of your network preferences is to disable unused hardware. Hardware are computer devices that you can feel and touch. You need to remove them from your device. If you are not going to remove them, you have to make them inactive. That is why it is important to shut down unused ports as well when you are trying to secure your network.

You need to go to your network and sharing section on your computer. You can always access this through Control Panel. If you do not know how to get to the Control Panel make use of your Search bar. When you get there. Click on Open Network Preferences. From the list of hardware devices displayed, select the one that connects your network.

Once you do that, the configure pop up will appear. You have the option of configuring manually or automatically. Choose “Manually” As my boss used to say, anything automatic is not good. I totally agree with him. When you are the one that configured a device, you actually know where to check when issues occur.

Use static IP Address in your secure network preferences

There is the need for you to enter the user’s static IP Address which is the address you have decided to give each computers on your network. Although some believe that the use of static IP address is not advisable as you are likely to give same address to different device. You need to enter the subnet mask, Router, DNS Server and Search domain configuration settings.

After you have done this, you need to click “Advanced” in order to configure IPv6 or IP version 6 pop up menu. Then you will choose the Off option and click ok. You now have a secure network. Congrats.
