Examining Risk Breakdown Structure for Projects
A Risk Breakdown Structure is a hierarchical arrangement of identified risks that helps the Project Manager to organize potential sources of risks to the project. The Risk Breakdown Structure works just like a work breakdown structure in the sense that it channel categories into a hierarchy. It allows the project team to define their responsibilities at different levels.
The RBS allows Project Managers to look at each phase of the project and decide on where risk occurs at each stage of the project. This will help the Project Manager to determine which stage of the project is more prone to risk and come up with a method of mitigating those risks for the project.
With the Risk Breakdown Structure, the Project manager and the entire team will also be able to identify the source of the risk and do risk categorization of the risk. This will help them to determine whether such risks are internal or external to the organization.
