There is the need for you to use Search engine result in order to see the number of competitors that you have for a particular keyword. That does not mean that is the total number of competitors that you have for that keyword.
To see the total number of competitors that you have for a particular keyword, go to the last page of the search result page.
If you want to perform research analysis for SEO, you need to check the actual number of websites that you have now, it will be lower than what you have earlier. This is the real number of website competing for that keyword.
