Organisational Project Management strategy (OPM) is one of the tools that are needed in order to ensure that every project been carried out by an organisation aligned with the objectives of the organisation. In this article, I want to look at some of the ways of achieving this.
Firstly, Projects, Programs and Portfolios are always aligned with or driven by organisational strategies. That means, what happens in an organisation will determine to a large extent the impact and outcome of a project. This also differs in the way each of them contributes to project success.
First and foremost, Portfolio management aligns portfolios with organisational strategies by selecting the right programs or projects to execute. It also helps in prioritizing the work and providing the needed resources for projects execution.
Program management also harmonises its program components and controls interdependencies among projects. This is being done in order to realise the specific results for the program.
Also, Project Management enables the achievement of organisational goals and objectives. It allows the organisation to put all resources together in order to achieve project objectives.
Further details about Organisational Project Management Strategy
It should be noted that when organisations embark on Project, program or portfolio management as part of their organisational project management, they are always carried out to achieve specific results. These are meant to guide the organisation on how to achieve those specific results.
Furthermore, alignment of projects, programs and portfolio can be achieved through systematic management of portfolio, programs and projects through the application of organisational project management.
OPM is defined as a framework in which portfolio, program and project management are integrated with organisational enablers in order to achieve strategic objectives.
Also, the purpose of Organisational Project Management strategy is to ensure that the organisation undertakes the right projects and allocates critical resources appropriately. It also ensures that all levels in the organisation understand the strategic vision, the initiatives that support the vision, the objectives and the deliverables.
