A bloggers Life: 10 tips to start blogging. Hey! Welcome back to my blog , In my preivious article I told you about my personal story. And so you know that I’m a fulltime blogger.
This is absolutely not an easy job in Nigeria. But still their are some people who can make a living out of it. But to make it so far, there are some importat rules you have to keep in mind!
And I will tell you them.
Why Do You Want To Start a blog ?
This is a question you need to deeply ask yourself , First of all it is very important to know why you want to start a blog.
Is it for the goodies, the free clothes, to travel the world or something else ?
If that’s the fact I have to be honest and say: it wont last.
Let me break it down, if you want to start blogging because you want to earn , it might not last because am sure your mind will strongly be in the money making of a thing .
There are so many bloggers and Instagram accounts. Readers are in search for unique profiles, authenticity and honesty. Free goodies and presents are a very nice consequence, but no goal.
A lot of people underestimate the work that you have to put into a blog.I notice that many blogs or accounts are started but the hard work hits them off .
You can only maintain it when you are really passionate about it and this is the real TRUTH .
You only receive good results when you spend a lot of time on it!Get your notebook and write down all the tips you can use.
I’ve got 10 tips you have to take into account as a novice for blogging
Tip 1: choosing a name
First of all your name. It tells what your blog is about and people recognize your blog by this name.
So you have to brainstorm about it. You don’t want to be seen as a random fashionblog or foodblog.
You want something unique that brings out your personality and appeals good to people.
Even I got that part wrong, like you’ve seen in my previous article.I took a wrong pronunciation of my own name. But the advantage about that is the fact that it is cute, funny and it sticks around in peoples minds. When you choose a particular identity name, it makes people identify you and search you directly from board . Not a must a long name , kindly check out some fine and cute short names that people can remember easily then you are good to go.
Tip 2: Unique concept
Nowadays people don’t start a blog or insta from an idyllic idea: “I’m sitting in my little room writing down my stuff for the world.” Everyone knows that it’s a business, you can get stuff done with it.
That’s why so many people start, which makes it more important to distinguish yourself from someone else. You have to make a concept, stay with it, and make it noticable for the public. When you get known , you will different from others , we have millions of bloggers in the whole world so make your concept unique one so therefore So it is very important to think about it instead of random uploading some stuff.
Tip 3: Platforms
Which platform you use, is something to consider. Everyone thinks: “Instagram is the easiest platform”.And that is true. You can easily put your content down and grow faster. But I noticed, in my own experience, that brands are more likely to work with extra blogstories.
This can give more depth into your campagne or can tell the story more. So if you choose a platform, you have to know with what kind of brands you want to work.
My biggest revenues still come from my blog and not from my Instagram account. While my Instagram account has more followers than my unique visitors on my blog.
Tip 4: Skills
Know what you can, where you thrive in.
Are you good in taking pictures? Then take pictures. Are your writing skills great? Write longer stories and more stories. People will like this.
For example: Park & cube. A famous blogger who find her skill in storytelling and graphic design. You see this in her blog and that’s the reason why I seek out her blog again and again.
Extra tip: Choose one look for your photos. By this you create your consistency.
Tip 5: Website
It is really difficult to find a site where you can start your blog. There are many of them!
I work with WordPress and I bought my theme, my layout at an extern graphic office. The benefit is that it is more original than the standard themes in wordpress. If you really want to go the professional way, I recommend getting a domain name.
A ‘.com’ or a ‘.con.ng’ instead of a ‘.blogger.com’ or ‘.wordpress.com’ there are lots of cheap domain names outside there that you can purchase . Make this domain name accessible and easy to find.
Tip 6: Material
Do you need expensive material to make great images? The anwser is no. You can easily take photos with your phone and edit them on it. You just have to know where you want to anticipate.
For example: blogger Margeret Zhang had a shoot with her iPhone 7 for the magazine Elle. So it is possible. For my blog I do choose for a professional camera. But for my Instagram I just take photos with my iPhone. I notice that working with an iPhone works better on Instagram and blogs .
I think it’s because of the more spontanious, accesible sphere that speaks to people. Sure take a look at my Instagram episode, where I will talk a little more about my professional material.
Tip 7: Authenticity
Your public makes or break your blog.
If they notice that your idea is real, honest, interesting and unique, they will stick around. You have to stay yourself, bring out your own personality and people will appreciate this.
In case of sponsered content, this is very important. People don’t like it if a person with a minimalistic style, suddenly wears a bright pink Disney watch.
People will notice that this sponsored. It is a NO GO AREA .
I personally have not allowed people for that reason. When your sponsores contents are not real enough , this can spoil your image , people don’t care If it’s sponsored or written by another person , as long as they can see it in your blog , then it’s your image . So learn to say no.
Tip 8: Public
Try to figure out who your public is. Try to anticipate on this. People don’t visit stuff you like, but they visit stuff from you that they like. For example: I like to go to festivals because of the music. But my public likes my outfits more.
So if I write a review about the music, it will fail. I could mention it, but I will have to write more about my outfits and why I wore them. Making a connection is also an important part. Simply by going into interaction with your public.
React to comments, answer questions, even on e-mails. Because of this, they will keep returning and this will boost you alots
Tip 9: Data
Data is important, but it’s not the most important part. I “only” have 1000 followers on Instagram, while I’m already 8 years in the business.
I know a lot of girls who started 1 or 2 years ago and who have more than 2 thousand followers And still I can live from it. Your blog or instagram just has to have the right followers. Let your users and followers be real and not fakes . There might be much are not real ones . The real ones will certainly help you in the game like sharing you to the world , always coming back and more things to you can think of .
A luxury brand will not invite a Instagrammer or blogger with 50K followers if that puplic only consists teenage girls or peaking man. Luxury brands search for someone who has the right public.
Quality still beats quantity.
Tip 10: Own a style
Last but not least: Stick with your own style. Don’t try to be someone else because people want to see that person.
No, people are visiting just for you. Even when it are only a few in the beginning. Take some time to develop a style and a niche.
Look at me: I only started fulltime blogging after 7 years! There are so many different things, but there is so much crap between them. Brands and PR offices are just looking for a new style. New unique personalities with an own style and story. And you can be part of it!
So break a leg! And let me know if you had any struggle or good experience with blogging or Instagram! And of course if I can help with something: SHOOT!
