According to Section 1 of the Examining European Union Data Protection Directive, member states shall provide that the data personal data must be collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a way incompatible for that purpose. That means you should only use data for the purpose you have collected it for and not otherwise.
Also, the Section 2 of this very Act state that member state shall provide that personal data may be processed or used only if the third party or owner of those data has given their legitimate consent. There are some that are fond of using customer data in a way that is not in compliant with stated rules, the law seeks to address this anomaly.
Section 5 of the Act states that member states shall guarantee every data subject the right to obtain from the controller without constraint at a reasonable interval and without excessive delay.
