Let’s look at how we can achieve through project management plans…
Project management plans are a set of plans and blueprints that you have put in place as regards the implementation of your project in order to guarantee project success. In my previous article, I have talked about some of the components of a good project management plan. as well as what you need to do in order to achieve your project objectives.
Some of these include a description of tools and techniques, description of tasks, monitoring and controlling the project as well as a listing of project management processes that will be followed.
In this article, I want to look at some of the components of a good project management plan. Follow me as we look at this together.
#1 Configuration management
How many of us have ever used a Java-enabled phone? I know many of my internet savvy readers know how to configure their phone for browsing.
The same thing applies to projects. There must be a way that the different components of the project come together.
Have you ever seen a building that it’s started from the roof down? One step has to lead to another. That is where configuration management comes in.
Most of the time, you may not have all the capital to complete you may not have all the capital to complete your project.
You have to establish milestones that will serve as an indicator to show whether you are succeeding or not.
This also come with a date to indicate that each of the milestones is expected to be achieved. This will show if you are on course as far as your project objectives are concerned.
#2 Performance measurement baseline
One other aspect of a good project management plan is the performance measurement baseline. in doing this, you need to set up a performance indicator for your project.
You have to establish milestones that will serve as an indicator to show whether you are succeeding or not. This also comes with a date to indicate that each of the milestones is expected to be achieved.
All these deliverables on the due date show that you are on course as far as your project objective is concerned.
#3 Stakeholder communication
When we are looking at a good project management plan and in line with project management best practices.
A good project manager uses about ninety percent of his time communicating with stakeholders.
You must have been able to identify your stakeholders as well as their preferred mode of communication.
This will ensure that you are carrying your stakeholders along as well as communicating with them in an effective manner.
#4 Project lifecycle
Sequel to all other actions that have been carried out in order to prepare a good project management plan, there is the need for the project manager to define what happens at each stage of the project lifecycle.
Doing this will help us to know if we have fulfilled our previous requirements and assumptions. We will be able to state categorically if our project can move to the next phase or not.
#5 Open issues
Another aspect of a good project management plan is open issues. When any of the parties comes with a project.
Stakeholders always have concerns as far as the project is concerned.
There is the need for you as a Project Manager to document the concerns and assumptions of your stakeholders as well as how the need of each of the stakeholders will be addressed in the long run.
