Research describes numerous leadership styles that an effective Project Manager can adopt. Some of the most common examples of these leadership styles that a Project Manager can adopt when managing a project include:
This is the type of leadership styles that an effective project manager can adopt. In this type of leadership style, the team members are allowed to make their own decisions and establish their goals. This is also referred to as “Taking hands off” style.
This is the type of leadership style where the Project Manager focuses on goals, feedback, and accomplishment to determine rewards. It is also known as management by exception. Here, Project members are rewarded based on how far they can assist the Project Manager to achieve project goals.
Here, the Project Manager focused on empowering followers through identified attributes and behaviours, inspirational motivation, encouragement for innovation and creativity, and individual consideration.
#4 SERVANT LEADER
Here, the Project Manager demonstrates a commitment to serve and put other people first, focused on other people‘s growth, learning, development, autonomy and well-being. He also concentrates on relationships, community, and collaboration. Here, leadership is secondary and emerge after service.
Here, the Project Manager has the ability to inspire. He is always in high energy, enthusiastic, self-confident and holds strong convictions regarding the project.
Here, an effective project manager has a combination of transactional, transformational, and charismatic leadership styles to achieve project management objectives.
