Introducing the Design and Transition Value Chain Activity


Design and Transition value chain activity is one of the value chain activity that you need to prepare when it comes to developing IT Solutions. This purpose of Design and Transition as a value chain activity is to ensure that products and services continually meet stakeholders expectations for quality, cost and time to market.

#1 Portfolio Decisions

The first major input of This value chain activity is portfolio decisions by the Planning team. They have to decide on the roles and skill sets that need to be in place in order to achieve the transition goals. They must confirm that all the necessary training and certifications, as well as job roles, have been filled before the service is being launched. 


#2 Architecture and Policies

Another major input of Design and Transition stage is the supply of Architecture and Policies by the Planning team. They have to really the documentation of what they planned initially to the planning team. This will allow them to access the difference between what was planned and what was actually produced. It will also give room for the team to educate end users on how the system works. This will allow the organisation to get the best out of the whole solution. 


#3 Products and Service Requirement

Another important input that this team needs in order for them to function effectively is the Products and Service requirements that will be provided by the Engage team. The Engage team is the team that always liaise with stakeholders and end users in order to have a proper understanding of their expectations from the solution. The Design and Transition team need to work with them in order to have a proper understanding of what the product requirements will be. 


#4 Improvement initiatives

Another major input that this team needs in order to function effectively is the improvement plans and initiatives provided by the Improve team. They have to ensure all pending improvement initiatives are implemented to a logical conclusion. They also have to make sure that simplicity is put into consideration when it comes to all improvement activities. They also have to sure that all improvement components added to the solution are working perfectly before they are being transferred to end users. 


#5 Improvement Status Report

Another input that the Design and Transition team needs in order to perform effectively is the improvement status report from the Improve team. They have to look at these and assess what has happened so far. This will also enable the organisation to understand some of the challenges being faced during the transition. It is the responsibility of this team to now work on how some of the concerns raised can be resolved.


#6 Service Performance Information

Another input of this value chain activity is service performance information from the Deliver and Support team. They have to allow the team to have a glimpse of how far they have performed when it comes to service and support. They also need to look at some of the challenges confronting the Front Desk as well as measures that should be taken when transferring the new or improved service to the end users.
